Not all books in the library have been registered to the online catalogue.
If you want to search the TUFS collections thoroughly, it is also needed to search the card catalogue.
There are two categories of the card catalogue, Shin-Bunrui and Kyû-Bunrui.
We adopt Shin-Bunrui cataloging presently for the organization of the online catalogue.
Access Point of Card Catalogue
The card catalog consists of a classified catalogue, an author’s name catalogue, and a book title catalogue.
| Classified catalogue | Use it if you don’t know the author or book title you are looking for, or if you want to do a comprehensive search on a particular subject. The card catalogues are organized in order of classification symbol (within the same classification symbol, in order of acceptance). This order corresponds closely to the arrangement on the shelves. |
| Author’s name catalogue | Use it if you know the author (or editor) of a book. |
| Book title catalogue | Use it if you know the title of a book. |
The basic arrangement of the author’s name catalogue and book title catalogue is alphabetical.
Books written in Japanese and Chinese letters are arranged in the Hepburn Roman alphabet.
Books written in Hangul and Cyrillic characters are arranged in their original spelling.

Encyclopedias, dictionaries and books without an author (where the publisher is also the author, or where the author’s name is not given for special reasons) can be searched by book title.
Biographies and other books about a specific person can also be searched by the person’s name.

The classified catalogues are arranged in alphabetical order of book title (Books in Japanese, Chinese, Korean) or author (Books in other languages) within the same category.
Book title catalogues and author’s name catalogues are arranged in alphabetical order by book title or author, irrespective of the classification.
