University of Languages and International Studies, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-ULIS) and Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) signed a partnership agreement in 2015. The exchange between the two universities began in the 1990s with the exchange of research with Vietnamese teachers at our university and with collaborative projects in the field of Japanese language education.

In 2005, VNU-ULIS established the first Japanese language teacher training course in Vietnam, and teachers from Japanese Language Center for International Students (JLC) in TUFS were sent to Vietnam to give intensive lectures to help with setting up the course.

VNU-ULIS is also a valuable field experience for students in the TUFS pre-doctoral program as interns in Japanese language education.

On January 19, 2022, a signing ceremony regarding the establishment of a Global Japan Desk (GJD) was held online with University of Languages and International Studies, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-ULIS).
VNU-ULIS president Mr. ĐỖ Tuấn Minh and TUFS president Ms. HAYASHI Kayoko participated in the ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Vice President MATSUKUMA Jun, while Specially Appointed Professor IMAI Akio, Professor FUJIMURA Tomoko and Associate Professor NOHIRA Munehiro observed.
The establishment of a GJD is expected to promote further cooperation between the two institutions.
