TUFS Cinema
Historical Films about the Japanese American Community, “Orange Story”, “Resettlement: Chicago Story”, and “Enough”
TUFS Cinema aims to deepen understanding of social, historical, and cultural aspects in various regions of the world through film screenings.
Through the three short films, this screening programme traces the experiences of the Japanese American community—from the forced removal and internment in camps around the time of the Second World War, through the forced assimilation that followed their release, to the subsequent movement demanding rights and compensation. We will explore how we can pass on historical memory across different perspectives and generations.

A trilogy of short films depicting the experiences of Japanese Americans who were interned by the US government during the Second World War, and the memories passed down to subsequent generations. “The Orange Story” (2016, 18 minutes) portrays the anguish of a Japanese American man who was forced to relinquish both his grocery shop and his possessions following an order of compulsory relocation. “Resettlement: Chicago Story” (2023, 17 mins) follows a Japanese-American family struggling to rebuild their lives whilst running a dry-cleaning business in post-war Chicago. “ENOUGH” (2026, 22 mins) explores the significance of confronting historical injustice through the inner conflict of a lawyer who resolves to give testimony, set against the backdrop of the compensation campaign of the 1980s. These three films depict forced internment, post-war resettlement and the struggle for rehabilitation from a personal perspective, exploring the trauma and memories passed down across generations, as well as the possibilities for justice and reconciliation.
