What is “TUFS Online Preparatory Japanese Language Course for International Students (OPJLC)”?

The Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) is offering online Japanese language course from February to March 2023. The course is offered to MEXT scholarship research students currently enrolled in a Japanese university.
This online course, called "On-Demand Learning Materials & Self-Study Course", consists of self-study using on-demand learning materials and online schooling. Since the course is online, students can take it from anywhere in the world with an Internet environment and access to designated applications.

About the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies

The Tokyo University of Foreign Studies has a history of over 120 years. Based on its long history, TUFS continues to play an important role as one of the hubs of international academic research and exchange in Japan. In addition, it is one of the largest Japanese language institutions in Japan, having accepted many international exchange students from all over the world and provided them with a high standard of Japanese language education.

Course Outline

This course allows students to study autonomously using on-demand learning materials developed by TUFS. As an aid to self-study, weekly online schooling is conducted via Zoom.

*Students may join either AM or PM session, regardless of the class time they applied for.

Elementary 1-A

Those who are learning Japanese for the first time. This course include Hiragana and Katakana lessons.

Students will have
access to online study
materials for a limited time.
Elementary 1-B

Those who meet at least one of the following:
・ Have 3 to 6-month Japanese study experience.
・ Wish to learn JLPT N5-level Japanese
・ Have already learned verbs in “ますForm”, but not “てForm” or “ないForm”.

Student Nomination / Application

■Procedure for the person in charge of the university
Call for the participants to the course, fill out the form (information on the person in charge and the person who wishes to take the course), and e-mail it to the person in charge at our university. In addition, please instruct the applicants to fill out and submit the following "Student Application Form".

■Procedure for students
Inform your wish to participate in the OPJLC course to the person in charge of the enrolling university to get nominated. Then fill out the student application form.

【Student Application Form】

The application deadline is Friday, January 20, 2023 .
Please complete both the submission of the nomination form by the person in charge of each university, and the submission of the "Student Application Form" by the student by the deadline. After the review, TUFS will contact the person in charge at each university and the individual student to confirm the acceptance to the course. In case of large number of application, there will be a draw.
