What is “TUFS Online Preparatory Japanese Language Course for International Students (OPJLC)”?
The Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) is offering online Japanese language course from February to March 2022. The course is designed for international students who will be starting their study at their host institution in Japan in spring 2022. The course is taught interactively through real-time online sessions, and can be taken from any places in the world where stable internet connection and media used in the class are available. We offer two levels to choose from, Elementary 1 for first-time learners and Elementary 2 for those who have studied introductory Japanese before. Morning and evening classes are available for both levels for the students’ convenience. Join our online course and learn basic Japanese, to take one step forward toward a great start in April in Japan!
About the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies
The Tokyo University of Foreign Studies has a history of over 120 years. Japanese Elementary 1 is an introductory course for those who are studying Japanese for the first time. The goal of the course is to be able to read and write Hiragana and Katakana and to acquire very basic Japanese skills, such as the use of phrases for self-introduction and shopping.

Lesson 1 to 3
Japanese Elementary 2 is a beginner’s course for those who have studied Japanese before. The goal is to improve Japanese language skills at the elementary (first stage) level, mainly through basic Japanese vocabulary and grammar. Japanese characters (Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji) are not taught in this course.

Lesson 7 to 9
Applications must be organized and submitted through the person in charge of application at applicant's home institution in Japan.
Direct applications from individual students will not be accepted.
- The person in charge of application to fill out the application form (enter information about the person in charge of application and applicants on the designated Excel format), and email the form to [Office for Online Preparatory Japanese Language Course (opjlc[at]tufs.ac.jp)].
- The person in charge of application to instruct applicants (students) to fill out the Google Form below.

*The application form must be submitted and the Google Form must be filled out by February 10, 2022 (application deadline).
- The office for TUFS Online Japanese Course (OPJLC) will send an admission result email to the person in charge of application and applicants, after February 10 (application deadline).
