What is “TUFS Online Preparatory Japanese Language Course for International Students (OPJLC)”?
The Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) is offering online Japanese language course from February to March 2023. The course is offered to the international students who will be starting their study at a university in Japan in spring 2023*. There are two types of courses: a "Live Online Course”, in which all online classes are conducted in real time, and an "On-Demand Learning Materials & Self-Study Course", which consists of self-study using on-demand learning materials and online schooling. Both types allow students to choose a course that fits their learning style and schedule. Since the courses are online, students can take them from anywhere in the world with an Internet environment and access to designated applications. Join our online course and learn basic Japanese, to take one step forward toward a great start in April in Japan!
*This course is intended for students who will be enrolled in a regular university or graduate school program in the spring of 2023. Exchange students, research students, and other non-degree students are not eligible. Also, students who plan to enroll in a semester other than spring 2023 are not eligible for this course.
About the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies
The Tokyo University of Foreign Studies has a history of over 120 years. Based on its long history, TUFS continues to play an important role as one of the hubs of international academic research and exchange in Japan. In addition, it is one of the largest Japanese language institutions in Japan, having accepted many international exchange students from all over the world and provided them with a high standard of Japanese language education.
Course Outline
Two types of courses are offered this year: Live Online Course and On-Demand Learning Materials & Self-Study Course. Please be sure to check the course details before applying.
① Live Online Course
This is an online Japanese language course where all classes are conducted in real time. Students will acquire Japanese language skills mainly through conversation practice.

*No class on Thursday, February 23.

Hours of Instruction: 90 min. / class (total of 12 sessions)

Evening Class 8:00PM~9:30PM (JST) -
Capacity: 40 students / level (20 students each in morning and evening)

This course allows students to study autonomously using on-demand learning materials developed by TUFS. As an aid to self-study, weekly online schooling is conducted via Zoom.

Student Nomination / Application
■Procedure for the person in charge of the university
Call for the participants to the course, fill out the form (information on the person in charge and the person who wishes to take the course), and e-mail it to the person in charge at our university. In addition, please instruct the applicants to fill out and submit the following "Student Application Form".
■Procedure for students
Inform your wish to participate in the OPJLC course to the person in charge of the enrolling university to get nominated. Then fill out the student application form.

The application deadline is Thursday, December 22, 2022 .
Please complete both the submission of the nomination form by the person in charge of each university, and the submission of the "Student Application Form" by the student by the deadline. After the review, TUFS will contact the person in charge at each university and the individual student to confirm the acceptance to the course. In case of large number of application, there will be a draw.
