  Nelson Mandela [18 July 1918 ~ 5 December 2013]
Nelson Mandela was the Nobel Peace Prize‐winning South African president, serving from 1994 to 1999. He devoted himself to South African politics. He was imprisoned for 27 years (released in 1990), took the first step toward abolition of apartheid due to his longtime efforts (1991), was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize together with then President FW DeKlerk(1993), and was inaugurated South Africa’s first black president (1994). While serving as the president, he fostered racial reconciliation and continued to dismantle the legacy of apartheid. He faced challenges that extended beyond Africa, many of which we continue to face today.
We are honored to invite Mohau N. PHEKO, the ambassador of South Africa as the guest speaker.
