Report on January Relay Lectures from the Ambassadors for the South African Development Community

March 17, 2017

These lectures were held on the generosity of the ambassadors for the South African Development Community (SADC) as a required module for first year students of African area studies at TUFS during second period on Wednesdays during the autumn term. Below are details on two lectures held this month.

(11th lecture) 11th January (Wednesday) Republic of Botswana- [ぺメロ・テレケロ一等書記官]

(12th lecture) 18th January (Wednesday) Republic of Angola- His Excellency Mr. João Miguel Vahekeni

The lecturers gave ingeniously constructed lectures including quizzes, and spoke in easy-to-understand English about the history of their countries, politics, economics, culture, and tourism. The students enthusiastically asked questions to the lecturers with the comparative view of the countries that they had gained and had a lively exchange of ideas.

These relay lectures have come to be carried out as a required module for first year African area studies every Wednesday from October. Ambassadors for 12 countries gave lectures. Now, the lectures have come to a conclusion. Due to the generosity of the ambassadors for the countries of the SADC, we were able to hold another year of extremely rewarding lectures. The SADC relay lectures will be held again next year during the second period on Wednesdays during the autumn term.
