2018 Academic Year "Balancing Work and Caregiving: Practical Seminar" held at TUFS

On Wednesday the 27th of February (2019), continuing on from last year's introductory seminar, a practical seminar on a topic many people experience, "caregiving", was held at TUFS in AGORA Global's Project Space (3F). 16 people participated in this seminar.

This seminar was taught by Ms. Minae Igi (social worker and Career Development Advisor) and Hideo Matsui (care worker and Care Support Specialist) from Benesse Senior Support Co., Ltd., who discussed care plans and caregiving services while weaving in answers to the questions participants wrote on their application forms.

  • There are many circumstances under which caregiving becomes necessary. For men, the most common is cerebrovascular disease, and for women, dementia.
  • Caregiving can be an information war, and preparation is necessary.
  • The three fundamental sources of caregiving are one, local elderly care centers, two, family doctors, and three, care managers.

Along with last year's seminar, this year's seminar aimed to lead participants in their preparations so that, if faced with caregiving responsibilities, they can take action and will not be forced to leave their jobs.

*This seminar was held as part of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's 2016 Support Funds for the Development of Human Resources in Science and Technology project, "Initiative for Realizing Diversity in the Research Environment".
