What is TUFiSCo?

TUFS Field Science Commons (TUFiSCo) is an organisation that serves as the core of research at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, facilitating collaborative research both within and outside the university. It places particular emphasis on research that involves visiting various human activities, in other words, valuing the significance of fieldwork.

It aims to achieve the following three objectives:

(1) Co-creation with Society

We seek to disseminate the outcomes of field research, with a special focus on Asia and Africa, to the general public. Through dialogue and collaboration with the public and stakeholders in the field, we aim to explore new forms of research.

(2) Advancement of Field Archiving

By digitizing data collected through fieldwork and analysing it using information science methods, we aim to open up new knowledge and perspectives distinct from conventional approaches. Simultaneously, we make the accumulated data publicly available for widespread use.

(3) Exploration of New Field Science Methods

By using latest digital devices in fieldwork and interdisciplinary collaboration, involving both arts and information science regardless of disciplinary boundaries, we seek to develop new methods for field surveys and data analysis.
