まちづくりという社会現象について広く関心を持っています。
主な研究は、「まちづくり」や「地方創生」と呼ばれる実践が作れていくプロセスについてです。特に衰退する地域の社会や産業の持続性を高めようと始まった地域のまちづくり活動が、その後成果を上げて著名になり、「まちづくりが盛んな地域」と評されるようになった町を研究対象としています。
そうした地域に暮らす住民や移住者、また地域内外の主体や制度によって、「まちづくり」が如何に作られていくのか。そして、彼らがその「まちづくり」を自らの生活を通して如何に体験し、如何にそれと向き合いながら暮らしているのか、文化人類学などの視点から研究しています。
また、その事例分析を蓄積することで、「まちづくり」を如何に記述・描写できるか、についても検討しています。 具体的には、
・地方移住者が多く集まることで知られる島根県海士町のまちづくり、
・住民参加型まちづくりで知られるアメリカ・オレゴン州ポートランド
などのまちづくりを対象としています。

その他、最近では離島振興、離島におけるまちづくりに関する研究プロジェクトに参加させて頂いています。具体的な調査地は、東京都大島、ハワイのカウアイ島などです。

I'm broadly interested in the "community / local development" and "rural revitalization (= Tihou-sousei in Japanese)".
My research is about the process of making "local development" or "rural revitalization".
I'm studying the questions below from the viewpoint of social anthropology.

How the local development is created by local residents, migrants from other towns, and other actors and systems?
How local residents, migrants from other towns, and other people experience and deal with "community development" in their own lives?

I'm also studying how "community development" can be described in social anthropology by accumulating such case analyses.

My main field is Ama-town in Oki islands district in West Japan. I recently involved in some other projects for community development and revitalization in island. The fields of these are Kauai Island in Hawaii, Oshima in Tokyo.
