About CAAS

The Consortium for Asian and African Studies (CAAS) was inaugurated in March 2007 by five higher educational institutions worldwide including TUFS that lead the Asian and African studies, in order to strengthen collaboration in research and education activities.

Asia and Africa have been acquiring growing importance as key-players in the era of globalization. Due to the regions' high diversity, however, it had been said to be difficult for a single institution to cover the area both in breadth and depth. Interinstitutional collaboration especially that of international nature, is necessary. Through this new international coalition framework, the five institutions with long tradition and high professionalism in the fields would take advantage of their synergy, and aim to explore new frontiers.
