Report
On Friday, October 24, we held our African Student Exchange Gathering, welcoming a total of 87 participants -- 84 in person and 3 online, including supporters of our crowdfunding campaign.
The event brought together three exchange students whose studies in Japan were made possible through your generous support:
Mr. Victor and Mr. Ade from the Protestant University of Rwanda (PUR), and Ms. Aurelie from the University of Yaoundé I in Cameroon.
They were joined by graduate students from the Peace and Conflict Studies (PCS) program at TUFS, African graduate students from Tokyo Institute of Technology, and other international students at TUFS, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere.
Among the participants was Ms. Rosemond, who first came to TUFS as an exchange student in 2023.
Like Ms. Shukuru, she has returned to TUFS to continue her studies -- a path that several exchange alumni have chosen to take.
We were also honored by the presence of representatives from our corporate donors, Takaoka Engineering Co., Ltd. and Zensho Holdings Co., Ltd., as well as participants from other universities and institutions who joined us for observation.
In addition, a former Vice Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, who had befriended a Japanese TUFS exchange student while in Ghana, kindly attended the event.
Through such support, we feel that awareness of and engagement with TUFS's exchange programs and this event are steadily expanding -- not only within the university, but also among alumni and supporters beyond our campus.
We were also delighted to welcome Professor and Mrs. Sasaki from the Protestant University of Rwanda. For the PUR students currently studying at TUFS, it was a heartfelt reunion with their mentor in Japan.
As with our crowdfunding campaign, the event was organized and hosted by a team of dedicated student volunteers.
The "Africa Quiz" icebreaker -- filled with fun and culturally rich local questions -- drew much excitement and laughter.
Though the few hours passed quickly, we hope that all participants enjoyed the gathering.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to those who made additional donations at the reception desk on the day.
We hope this gathering will continue to deepen and broaden connections between African students and members of the TUFS community, fostering lasting partnerships both individually and institutionally.
Thank you once again to everyone who joined and supported this meaningful event.
