Lecturers: Masashi FURIHATA (ICJS,TUFS)
Yuka KAWAJI (ICJS,TUFS)
This seminar is part of No.23310176 Scientific Research(B), Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research〈KAKENHI〉report.
On July 3rd, the Sociolinguistics Department of ICJS held an open seminar, with presentations from M.FURIHATA (TUFS Professor,Indonesian language) lectured"Japanese and Sunrise Industries in Indonesia: the Japanese Community in Cikarang, Jakarta."
Other speaker, Y.KAWAJI (TUFS Professor, Japanese language education) presented"The Uses and Characteristics of Japanese in Modern-day Palau." In Cikarang, which is outlying city of Jakarta in Indonesia, the Japanese language school Ayumi, founded by a TUFS graduate, offers courses that also teach students about Japanese companies.
In Palau, as well as influences dating back to the Japanese occupation, the tourist sector has seen a focus on the acquisition of spoken Japanese skills.
Japanese language education needs to be receptive to the wide ranging needs of language learners.
