This report has been contributed by the planner, moderator of this event, Prof. Koji MORITA, an associate professor of Polish Studies, TUFS. As part of the "V4+Japan" exchange year organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ICJS hosted an international symposium entitled "The Japanese Home in Krakow - 20 Years of the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology" to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the museum's opening.

Museum Head Bogna Dziechciaruk-Maj and Deputy Head Katarzyna Nowak alongside Akiko KASUYA (Kyoto City University of Arts) and Stanislaw Meyer (the Jagiellonian University, Krakow; ICJS) headed lectures and discussions on the background to the museum's founding, the posters publicizing the numerous Japan-related events held there over the past 20 years, and its links with the Jagiellonian University's Japanese department. A retrospective poster exhibition was held October 15th -November 14th. Polish majors at TUFS helped to translate the poster captions.

The exhibition provided the perfect opportunity to reflect on Japan-Poland ties and attracted visitors from within and outside TUFS. A China-Japan-Korea academic conference on Poland was held October 25th-26th. Participants had the chance to enjoy the poster exhibition and its role in Japan-Poland ties.

On November 11th ICJS welcomed leading Polish cultural figure Andrzej Wajda, renowned film director and founder of the Manggha Museum, to speak on Polish history and culture, in an event entitled "Polish History and Culture Through Film". (Koji MORITA)
