Jean-Frederic SCHAUB, EHESS (Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales),
hosted by Sociedad Japonesa de Historia de Espana, co-hosted by ICJS.

In the key note speech, Prof. Schaub examined atraced the marine expansion of modern Europe and the origins of racism, by tracing back to the medieval period.

Through considering previous works events such as the medieval Crusades, the Reconquista, the slave trade in the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, the persecution against of Jews and the Inquisition, he demonstrated the relationship between the medieval and modern times and the modern.

In this sense, his lecture stressed the continuation of history.
Nonetheless, it is remarkable that he also notably referred to the fact that the new period was opened by the modern Europe's experience in the Atlantic Ocean opened a new age.

With impressive comments to from the lecture by Romulo EHALT, TUFS, Brazilian history, and Kenji IGAWA, Seijo University, from the standpoints of Brazilian and Japanese history, the argument was deepened and affluently developed respectively.
