Speaker: Megumi Sakamoto (ICJS, Associate Director)
Friday 1st June, 2012
based on her observations at the special training conducted at SOAS, London University (Oct, 2011 - Mar 2012), Prof. Sakamoto introduced the current situation in mainly U.K. universities of Japanese language education, Japanese research and Japanese language research. Japanese research in Europe is mainly conducted in English or the local language, and not enough time is spent on improving Japanese language skills. In the U.K. in particular, expectations of students studying in Japan are high because all students majoring in languages have to spend one year abroad.
