International Symposium- Constraction of "e-Japanology" co-hosted by Comparative Japanese Culture Division and International Cooperation Division - Report

The International Symposium, "Construction of e-Japanology", co-hosted by the Comparative Japanese Culture Division and International Cooperation Division was held on Dec 11 at the Sakura Hall. The presenters were: "A concept of e-Japanology in cooperation among universities in Tama district", Hiroshi Sano, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Takahiko Tsujisawa, Information Media Center, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Tsutomu Tomotsune, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. "Current Situation of the Digital Library Concept and Academic Digital Communication in Japan", Masaki Nakayama, The National Diet Library. "Japanese Studies in the U.S. from an Academic Library Perspective and Issues of Scholarly Digital Communication", Toshie Marra, UCLA, East Asian Library. "Current issues of e-Journal and open-access policies in the field of natural science" Kazuhiro Hayashi, The Chemical Society of Japan. "Digitalization of knowledge and the emergence of e-book in cultural history", Jun Katsuragawa, Book Designer. The possibility of creating within the Tama District an academic digital network on Japanology and Japanese Studies = e-Japanology in the fields of Japanese culture and international cooperation began with a proposal by Professor Sano and Professor Tsujisawa. This symposium was planned for participants to share issues they might face, understand the current situation, and as a kick start for future action.
