On Saturday 2th October, 2010, the Workshop "Japanese and Arabic Languages: Application to Comparative Study and Education " was held at the Conference hall.

The event was organized as a project of the International Japanese Education Division. We invited Dr Hanan Rafik Mohamed El-kawiish who is an associate Professor in the Department of Japanese Language and Literature、Cairo University, and Eba Hassan who is a PhD Candidate at Tokyo University.

Dr Hanan's lecture started with the errors Egyptian Japanese learners frequently produced in Phonetics and Phonology. She followed with an introduction of the teaching method. She insisted to let learners realize their phonological errors. On the other hand, She introduced examples of language transfers that Japanese Arabic learners produce, besides that she demonstrated Arabic pronunciations with the audience.

Ms. Hassan compared case-structures of Japanese and Arabic, raised examples of passive/causative expressions and transitive and intransitive variations to explain the differences in transitivity between the two languages. She explained the difficulties Arabic Japanese learners face when learning Japanese.

The workshop which was attended by more than 50 arabic specialists, Arabic learners and Japanese language instructors was followed a question and answer session where there were lively discussions among speaker and specialists.
