Professor Tanka from Dehli University gave a lecture on Doryu Kitabata, who was the first Japanese to make a pilgrimage to one of Buddhism's holiest places, Bodh Gaya in 1883. The lecture traced Doryu's life as he tried to fuse nationalism, law, militarism, westernization with Buddhism under the framework of Asian Social Theory, which originated from Indian Civilization Theory. It overturned the image of "repressed Buddhism" under the "State Shinto" doctrine during the Meiji Era and provided a fresh perspective to the participants. About fifteen people attended the workshop. Active discussions took place in the Q & A session, where reference to the religious movements of youths around the world from the late 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century was also made.
