TUFS Holds Polish National Reading

On Tuesday, December 12, 2023, TUFS hosted the Polish National Reading 2023, where 12 volunteer students from the TUFS Polish Language Department read the novel "On the Niemen" (1888) by Eliza Orzeszkowa, a Polish writer, in Polish.

Since 2012, Poland has held an annual event called "Narodowe Czytanie" (National Reading) under the auspices of the President of Poland and his wife, in which literary works selected by a public vote via the Internet are read at various locations in Poland and abroad.

TUFS and the Polish Cultural Institute in Tokyo co-host the Narodowe Czytanie every year. This year will be the seventh time the event has been held. This year, the guest speaker was Urszula Osmycka, Director of the Polish Cultural Institute in Tokyo, who read from "On the Niemen" with the students. Polish students studying at TUFS and other universities in Tokyo also participated as listeners.

After the closing of the meeting, Ms. Osmycka presented a commemorative gift and a Christmas present of Pączki, a traditional Polish confectionery.
