President of the Basque Country Visits TUFS

On Thursday, October 12, 2023, the President of the Basque Country, Mr. Íñigo Urkullu, visited President Kayoko Hayashi. Vice President Nobuo Haruna and Professor Sho Hagio attended the meeting and exchanged views on the Basque region, language and cultural education, and exchanges with the Basque Country. President Urkullu expressed his appreciation for the university's achievements in Basque regional, linguistic, and cultural education and student exchange, and expressed his desire to further develop exchanges with Japan.

Afterwards, President Urkullu observed a Basque language class (taught by Gari Ortigosa), a course supported by the Etxepare Basque Institute, and met with students studying the Basque language at TUFS. The students asked questions about Basque language education in the Basque Country and its relationship with Japan, and a lively exchange took place.

It is hoped that this visit will lead to more active exchanges between the Basque Country and TUFS.
