August 29, 2022

On Friday, August 5, 2022, TUFS Cinema, under the title “Socialism and Memory of War,” held a screening of the Cuban film Between Dog and Wolf at the Agora Global Prometheus Hall. Before the screening, Associate Professor Tsuyoshi Koshino of Keio University and Professor Ryoichi Hisano of TUFS explained the purpose of the event.

Between Dog and Wolf is a documentary/fiction film about three former soldiers of the Angolan Civil War who wander through the jungles of Cuba to confront their memories of the war.

After the screening of the film, Mr. Kazuki Niiya, a third-year doctoral student at the Graduate School of Global Studies, gave a commentary, followed by a talk with director Irene Gutierrez (participating online) and moderator Haruka Hama (Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival Secretariat), who discussed the relationship between transnational socialist ideals and war, and how the memory of war can be represented.
