TUFS Students Recite Poetry at Event Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Turkish National Anthem

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Turkish National Anthem in 2021, the Turkish Embassy in Tokyo held a memorial service for Mehmet Akif Ersoy (1873-1936), who wrote the words to the anthem and who was also a great poet and thinker. The event took place on Wednesday, May 11, 2022. Ms. Kaneko Moe, Mr. Korenaga Yuto, Ms. Oya Chihiro, and Ms. Tahara Saki, third-year TUFS students majoring in the Turkish language, recited Ersoy's National Anthem and a poem titled “Japan.”Addtionally, Hatice Aynur, a Visiting Fellow of the Research Institute of Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa, gave a lecture on Ersoy.

Turkish Ambassador to Japan H.E. Mr. Korkut Güungen presented a commemorative certificate, and a reception was held attended by second- and third-year TUFS students majoring in Turkish, TUFS faculty members, and TUFS alumni working at the embassy. A meaningful time was had by all.
