Celebrating the 50th anniversary (Golden Jubilee) of Bangladesh's independence

On Wednesday, March 30, 2022, the Embassy of Bangladesh in Japan and TUFS co-hosted the seminar “Bangabandhu in the International arena and Bangladesh” as a hybrid face-to-face and online event to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh's independence.

His Excellency Mr. Shahabuddin Ahmed, the Ambassador of Bangladesh in Japan opened the conference, followed by a congratulatory address by TUFS President Kayoko Hayashi.

The keynote speech was delivered by Mr. Monzurul Huq, former part-time lecturer at TUAT and the Japan bureau chief of a leading Bangladeshi daily newspaper, Prothom Alo. Mr. Kazuhiro Watanabe, a former NHK international broadcaster who also taught media translation at TUFS, also gave a speech in Bengali.

A government minister from Bangladesh also participated, and the students gathered in the hall listened attentively to the speeches.


* Bangabandhu is the nickname of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who led the Bangladesh independence movement and became its first president. The nickname means “Friend of Bengal″.
