Interactive Event Held at the Royal Embassy of Cambodia

October 28, 2021

On October 24, 2021, TUFS students participated in an interactive event held at the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Japan at the invitation of His Excellency Mr. UNG Rachana, Cambodia’s ambassador to Japan. This event was specially held for our students as part of economic strategy diplomacy.

Ambassador Ung had spoken with university president Ms. HAYASHI Kayoko and TUFS students this past July in an online meeting. In the following months, Ambassador Ung organized a special summer lecture for our students.

The invitation was limited to a small number of people in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection. Nine students, including a foreign exchange student tutor from Cambodia, participated in the event alongside two instructors. Participants enjoyed local food and traditional dances from Cambodia under careful measures to prevent COVID-19 infection.

Student also read aloud a poem from Krom Ngoy that was presented to them in July by Ambassador Ung. This was an excellent opportunity for students who have not been able to study abroad due to the pandemic to learn about Cambodian culture.

TUFS and the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) entered into a partnership in 2000 and have enhanced their interactions since then through the establishment in 2016 of the “TUFS Japan Specialist Program for the Enhancement of Japanese Language and Cultural Outreach in Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia.” Further cooperation between the two universities is expected after this event.
