February 16, 2021

On Tuesday, February 9, 2021, the Vice President of the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP), Dr. OUM Ravy, and TUFS President HAYASHI Kayoko, had a meeting via Zoom. They discussed the situation of university education and international exchange in the past year affected by COVID-19, and exchanged opinions on the development of cooperative relations between the two universities. Also present at the meeting were Specially Appointed Professor KEP Sokunthearath from RUPP, TUFS Associate Professor UEDA Hiromi (Institute of Global Studies) and Associate Professor OKADA Tomoko (Institute of Global Studies).

After the meeting, Vice President Oum Ravy gave a lecture titled "Higher Education & International Exchange Program RUPP During the Coronavirus Pandemic" to the Cambodian language majors participating in the TUFS Winter Short Visit Program (online). This program is a part of TUFS’ Inter-University Exchange Projects named "TUFS Japan Specialist Program for the Enhancement of Japanese Language and Cultural Outreach in Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia," and was held from February 8 (Mon.) to 12 (Fri.), 2021. A total of 16 students from TUFS and 7 participants from RUPP, including students, graduates and faculty members took part in the program. The lecture and Q&A session were conducted in Cambodian, and it was a good opportunity for TUFS students to exercise their Cambodian language skills. While it remains difficult to travel to Cambodia given the spread of COVID-19, Vice President Oum Ravy gave words of encouragement to the students, making it a valuable experience for all participants.

Detailed reports will be posted on the project's website after the completion of the program.
