‘Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama’ Screened at TUFS

January 22, 2020

On Friday the 10th of January, TUFS Cinema held a screening of the Indo-Japanese animated film, ‘Ramayana: The Legend of Rama’ in AGORA Global’s Prometheus Hall.

This film was created over nine years in the 1980s, and revived the Indian epic ‘Ramayana’ as an animation. The film was finished in 1992, but did not perform well when it was finally released due to coinciding with the Tokyo subway sarin attack and the destruction of the Babri Masjid in India. The film has yet to receive a digital release, so it was screened on 35mm film.

Following the screening, TUFS’ Professor MIZUNO Yoshifumi (Institute of Global Studies, classical Sanskrit literature and medieval Hindi literature specialist) gave a lecture on the history of ‘Ramayana’.

This event sparked interest and attracted around 520 people, exceeding the capacity of AGORA Global.
