Ambassador of Uzbekistan Visits TUFS

January 27, 2020

On Thursday the 17th of October, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan, His Excellency Mr. Gayrat Ganievich FAZILOV, visited TUFS and interacted with students in an Uzbek language class.

Ambassador Fazilov started his visit by meeting with TUFS President HAYASHI Kayoko. This meeting was also attended by TUFS Vice President MATSUKUMA Jun and Lecturer SHIMADA Shizuo (Institute of Global Studies). At this meeting, the possibility of future cultural exchanges was discussed, and it was confirmed that we would continue to build cooperative relations.

Following this meeting, Ambassador Fazilov observed one of TUFS’ Uzbek language classes. The ambassador quizzed students on Uzbek history and cuisine, and gifted them books on Uzbekistan. After the class, interviews were held in Uzbek with students who went on exchange to Uzbekistan through the Embassy of Culture and specially-appointed lecturer KIMURA Satoru (World Language and Society Education Centre). These interviews were also filmed.

There is a rich history of relations between Uzbekistan and TUFS, with student exchanges and many other exchanges happening over the years ever since the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies became a TUFS partner institution in 1997. As of 2019, TUFS has received 38 students from the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, and dispatched over 19 students in return. In addition to this, TUFS receives many MEXT Scholarship exchange students (research students and Japanese Studies students) from Uzbekistan.

TUFS anticipates that this visit contributed towards further strengthening relations between the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Japan and TUFS.
