43 Students from 5 Latin American Countries Begin La-CEP 2019

September 11, 2019

On Wednesday the 28th of August, an opening ceremony was held at TUFS to welcome 43 international students from nine universities in five Latin American countries into the 2019 Inter-University Project “A Co-Creative Education Program of Humanities and Sciences to Solve Global Issues Confronting Japan and Latin America” (La-CEP), a joint undertaking by the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT), the University of Electro-Communications (UEC) and TUFS. This program began in 2014, and this year’s program will be its last.

The students will study Japanese language and undergo training on the current situation of Japan at TUFS for one month from August 29th. The mornings will be spent in level-based Japanese language classes, and the afternoons in Japanese history and culture classes, or on field trips to places such as the Edo-Tokyo Museum, the Tachikawa Life Safety Learning Center and the Fuchu City Lunch Service Center.

The students will then spend from half a year to one year at one of the affiliate universities doing coursework and research. TUAT, UEC and TUFS hope to work as one to support the students and ensure that their time in Japan may be fruitful.
