October 15, 2018

On Wednesday, October 10, 2018, Professor Sibongile MUTHWA, Vice-Chacellor of Nelson Mandela University (South Africa) paid a courtesy visit to TUFS President TATEISHI. In the meeting, he was joined by Executive Director and Vice-President IWASAKI Minoru (Human Resources, Research), Professor HAGIO Sho (President’s Task Force, International Affairs) and Professor TAKEUCHI Shinichi (Director of the African Studies Center).

Nelson Mandela University is a leading institution of higher education in the Eastern Cape province. Last year it was renamed, becoming the only university to bear the name of the late former President of the Republic of South Africa, Nelson Mandela. According to President Muthwa, the university's original focus was on the field of natural sciences. However, going forward, the university would like to focus on the humanities and social sciences, including human rights issues, in line with Mandela's name.

The participants of the meeting introduced the two universities and discussed the possibility of future exchanges.
