November 13, 2018

On Tuesday the 18th of September, “Presentation Tricks and Techniques for Making an Impact on International Audiences”, a workshop aimed at female researchers, was held at TUFS.

This workshop was taught by Linc Science Representative Ms. Rinko Kawakami, and aimed to teach non-native English speakers how to give simple explanations and effectively deal with Q&A sessions, all based on the training methods used in American universities. After learning the basics in the morning, the afternoon workshop had participants present their own research topics, through which they were able to receive advice that changed their impressions on their own presentation skills, and were ultimately able to feel their persuasiveness increase.

Lecture 1: 'How do Effective Presentation Approaches Differ for Japanese and International Audiences?'
Lecture 2: 'How to Describe Definitions with Rhetorical Questions'
Lecture 3: 'Tips for Designing Visual Aids'
Lecture 4: 'Effective Approaches to Q&A Sessions' (5 hours total)

*This event was held in cooperation with TUFS partner institutions as part of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's 2016 Support Funds for the Development of Human Resources in Science and Technology project, “Initiative for Realizing Diversity in the Research Environment”.
