Arabic Reading Contest Held

On Saturday, December 9, 2023, the 2nd Arabic Reading Contest (organized by the TUFS Arabic Reading Contest Committee) was held at the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Japan to commemorate World Arabic Language Day (December 18). A total of 25 university students studying Arabic participated in the contest, competing in reciting Arabic literary works.

The contest was held in cooperation with the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Japan and supported by the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Japan, the Embassy of the Republic of Sudan in Japan, the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Japan, and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Japan, with the ambassadors of the cooperating and supporting embassies judging the contest. Ms. Chie Miyahara, Deputy Director of JICA's Sadako Ogata Institute for Peace and Development, also participated as a guest of honor and delivered closing remarks.

The results are as follows.

Grand Prize
1st Prize: Ms. OKAYASU Momiji, a first-year student of the School of Language and Culture Studies, TUFS (Awarded a certificate and a supplementary prize from the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Japan)

Excellence Awards
2nd Prize: Mr. UENO Taira, a first-year student of the School of International and Area Studies, TUFS (Awarded a certificate and a supplementary prize from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Japan)
3rd Prize: Ms. SAITO Hinako, a first-year student of the School of Language and Culture Studies, Tohoku University (Awarded a certificate and a supplementary prize from the Embassy of the Republic of Sudan in Japan)
4th Prize: Mr. KIYOKU Kosuke, a first-year student of the School of International and Area Studies, TUFS (Awarded a certificate and a supplementary prize from the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Japan)
5th Prize: Mr. IMAI Tatsuya, a third-year student of the Faculty of Global Studies, Sophia University (Awarded a certificate and a supplementary prize from the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Japan)
6th Prize: Ms. YAMAMOTO Kiyomi, Asian African Language Institute (Awarded a certificate and a supplementary prize from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Japan)
