Global Alliance of Foreign Studies Universities (GAFSU) Established

On Friday 19 th May 2017, an opening ceremony and kickoff forum on 'Languages, Civilization and Global Governance' was held for the Global Alliance of Foreign Studies Universities (GAFSU) at Beijing Foreign Studies University, and was attended by President Hirotaka Tateishi and company.


GAFSU was proposed by Beijing Foreign Studies University in 2015, and since it was originally planned by 20 universities focused in Asia, TUFS has been involved as a planning member since the beginning. On this occasion, the establishment and signing ceremony took place and the network was officially established. This alliance is a global union of 28 Universities around the world that promote foreign studies, and its objective is to facilitate cultural exchange and relationships of mutual trust between people who cross the borders between nations through the promotion of foreign studies. Among the member institutions are 9 partner institutions of TUFS, and through the framework of the networks fostered by TUFS and the East Asia Foreign Studies University Consortium (Beijing Foreign Studies University, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and TUFS), we will be able to deepen the exchange on a global scale.

At the university presidents' forum, President Tateishi gave a keynote speech entitled ""Foreign Studies" Towards Interculturality as Seen Through the History of TUFS", where he spoke about the history and progress of TUFS, as well as the university's principles and goals for the future.

The establishment ceremony and kickoff forum was joined by Executive Director / Vice President Minoru Iwasaki and Kobayashi Kozue Staff for the Student Exchange Division at TUFS, and networking took place between attendees from over 100 universities in 20 countries around the world.
