TUFS Philippine Cultural Dance Troupe Performs at Olympic Event

February 20, 2018

On Saturday the 10th February, the TUFS Philippine Cultural Dance Troupe performed at the 2018 Winter Olympics-related event, ‘Tokyo 2020 Live Site in 2018’ (held by the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games) in Tokyo. As TUFS and Fuchu City have formed a Partnership Agreement, the troupe represented Fuchu City when they performed on the main stage at Inokashira Park. Aside from Inokashira Park, ‘Tokyo 2020 Live Site in 2018’ was held at locations in the Miyagi, Fukushima, Iwate and Kumamoto prefectures, with each venue holding public viewings of the 2018 Winter Olympics, and attractions such as sports trials and athlete talk shows.

A Comment from Troupe Leader, Miho Morita (School of Language and Culture Studies, Filipino Language Studies, third year)

At this time, I am so happy that our performance was able to be seen by so many people at such a big event. For the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the stadium near TUFS, Ajinomoto Stadium, will be used as a venue, and so I hope I can help to create even a little excitement leading up to the games. I intend to continue working hard to raise awareness and understanding of foreign cultures, and to share the rich and diverse culture of the Philippines with many more people.
