Lecture on the latest situation in Cuba given by The Japanese Ambassador to Cuba

January 19, 2017

TUFS signed an academic exchange agreement with the University of Havana in Cuba in September 2016. To commemorate the occasion, we held a special lecture by the Japanese Ambassador to Cuba, Watanabe Masaru, on January 18, 2017 (host: Information Center for Social and International Collaboration(ICSIC), TUFS).

The lecture was titled "The latest situation in Cuba", and covered a wide range of subjects ranging from Cuban diplomacy and politics to the business environment, relations with the U.S., and the Prime Minister's visit to Cuba.

The lecture was attended by many people, not only students but also those from outside the university, demonstrating the high interest in Cuba. In the question-and-answer session held after the lecture, which lasted around 1 hour, there was an active exchange of opinions, following which more audience members queued to ask their questions to the ambassador directly.
Before the lecture, the Ambassador visited President Tateishi and conversed on future partnerships with Cuban educational and research institutions.
President Tateishi will visit Cuba this March to attend the agreement signing ceremony.
