Ambassador of Turkmenistan Visits TUFS

April 24, 2015

On Wednesday, April 1st, His Excellency Mr.Gurbanmammet Elyasov, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Japan, visited TUFS and had a meeting with TUFS President Tateishi and Vice President Miyazaki. He also visited the Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa (ILCAA) and met with Director Iizuka and Deputy Director Kuroki.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality. In the run up to Turkmenistan Day of Neutrality on December 12th, memorial events will be held both within the country and overseas. The day, recognized by the United Nations, marks the date in which Turkmenistan declared its intention to remain permanently neutral. The ambassador asked TUFS for its participation in these events, including international conferences and commemorative lectures.

In May 2014, at an academic conference, which celebrated the 290th anniversary of the birth of Turkemen poet Magtymugly, a TUFS postgraduate student received "the Magtymugly Pyragy Medal" from Turkmen President Berdimuhamedow. In November of that year, the director and members of National Institute of Manuscripts visited TUFS. As TUFS has ties with Turkmenistan, the university is expected to make a contribution to deepening relations between Japan and the country.
