Program
"Design and Anthropology: Practices for Activating Collaboration Between Two Close Yet Distant Disciplines" by Takahito Kamihira (Design Researcher / Senshu University and AA Research Fellow)
While there is ongoing debate about how cultural anthropology can respond to society, design studies frequently refer to anthropological insights to reflect on more fundamental practices. What could be the first steps toward overcoming the barriers between these two closely related yet distant academic fields to foster collaboration? From an anthropological perspective, how might learning and incorporating the basic practices and attitudes of design expand the potential for connecting the interests of anthropology with society? The speaker will share examples from his recent efforts on these topics.
