Leave No One Behind ～To Create a World Friendly to Everyone～

'Good Health and Well-being,' one of the international goals formulated in the SDGs aims of creating “a society that leaves no one behind.” This event aims to showcase the work of shadow interpreters and the initiatives of the universal theater, which strives to make its performances accessible to blind audiences, through the screening of Interpreters Beyond Boundaries: What a Wonderful World. In addition to understanding the content of the work,
we will listen to Ms. Ayako Hagiwara of the Japanese Association of Sign Language Interpreters. She conducts research on techniques of sign language interpretation specialized in stage performances, about the innovations and challenges in the field of shadow interpretation, as well as the issues that can be considered from the perspective of both sign language interpreters and people who are deaf. The goal of this event is to provide an opportunity for all participants to think about how they can contribute to creating a society where everyone can live comfortably.

Speakers

Ayako Hagiwara

She is a sign language interpreter and an assistant professor of Research and Support Center on Higher Education for People with Disabilities of Tsukuba University of Technology. She started research on shadow interpretation triggered by her interest of plays. She supervised The World of Shadow Interpreters, the documentary in Interpreters Beyond Boundaries.

Reo Yamada

He is a freelance videographer. He directs human documents and documentary dramas. He directed the film Interpreters Beyond Boundaries: What a Wonderful World, which will be screened this time.
