Study Report
Hello, my name is Ahiatsi Suzzy Ama, a Level 300 History and Political Science student at the University of Ghana. I had the privilege of studying at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) in Japan as an exchange student. This opportunity has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my academic journey, allowing me to grow academically, personally, and culturally. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Toyota Tsusho Ghana for generously supporting my round-trip air tickets, which made this exchange program possible. I am also deeply grateful to JASSO for sponsoring my education and living expenses during my stay in Japan. In addition, I would like to thank the African Studies Center for supporting us in-terms of need and giving as maximum support when needed. And also a big thank you to TUFS Student Exchange Division, the International Student Support Association (ISSA), and the African Studies Center for their continuous guidance, kindness, and support, which made my stay at TUFS both enjoyable and memorable.
Academic Life
At TUFS, I studied Japanese language and courses related to international organizations and global issues. The interactive teaching style, presentations, discussions, and assignments helped me improve my communication skills more and broaden my understanding of global affairs and I hope to learn more in the future.
Social Life and Cultural Experiences
Living in Japan gave me the chance to build meaningful friendships with Japanese and international students even though it was challenging sometimes. I explored places such as Asakusa, Odaiba, Yokohama, and Team Lab, experienced Japanese culture, and gained a deeper appreciation for the country's traditions, technology and daily life.
Challenges
Adjusting to a new language, culture, and transportation system was challenging at first. However, these experiences made me more independent, resilient, and confident to navigate life in my own way.
Conclusion
My exchange experience at TUFS has had a lasting impact on my academic and personal development. I will carry the knowledge, friendships, and cultural experiences with me as I continue my studies at the University of Ghana and pursue my future career.
