Q1. Tell me about your research briefly.

A1. While at TUFS I am doing research on the popular fiction (大衆文学) of Mishima Yukio.

Q2. In TUFS what are your lecture?

A2. I am teaching a class on the modern literature of minority groups in Japan (Ainu, burakumin, women, gay/lesbian, zainichi kankokujin).

Q3. Japan studies in TUFS have issued a policy to lay emphasis on the reinforcement of the Japan's ability to deliver a message to the world. What do you think is necessary for that?

A3. I do not think we should think of education as related to a kind of Japanese national policy. The Japanese government should not interfere with university life.

Q4. How about TUFS and students?

A4. I really like it here. My students are very chatty and enthusiastic, and it is a quiet place to live.

Q5. Compared with overseas, what is good in Japan and not good in Japan?

A5. Good: the weather, the food, the people generally friendly, the transport system Bad: people sometimes work too hard, the rush hour on trains
