Q1. Tell me about your research briefly.

A1. I have worked on my manuscripts on the tea ceremony in the Meiji period. I have also carried out some preliminary and archival research on my next project, which is on the images of the tea ceremony in popular prints.



Q2. In TUFS what are your lecture?

A2. I have taught a course on the society and culture of Meiji Japan. During the course we visited Meiji Shrine and Tokyo National Museum.



Q3. Japan studies in TUFS have issued a policy to lay emphasis on the reinforcement of the Japan's ability to deliver a message to the world. What do you think is necessary for that?

A3. A good research environment with an effective platform that can foster discussions amongst scholars, as well as publications targeting academic and general audiences.



Q4. How about TUFS and students?

A4. Generally speaking, the students are very quiet. It looks to me that they are not used to expressing their ideas in public.



Q5. Compared with overseas, what is good in Japan and not good in Japan?

A5. Everything is very well organized.
