On Tuesday 15th December, 2009, the Lecture "Language Contact between Japanese and English in the Ogasawara Islands" was held at the Sakura Hall of the Japanese Language Center. The event was organized as a project of the Socio Linguistics Division. We invited Professor Daniel Long from Tokyo Metropolitan University who is the author of the Dictionary of the Ogasawara Islands (Ogasawara kotoba shaberu jiten). The lecture which included the talk on his experience of the field-work in the Islands was favorably reviewed by the audience of around fifty. The lecture was followed by the question and answer sessions where there were lively discussions among students and participants from both inside and outside of the University.
