Kalahari Hunter-Gatherers Photo Exhibition: 1992–1996

This exhibition presents photographs from fieldwork conducted by Hirosi Nakagawa between 1992 and 1996 in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Botswana. The images offer a glimpse into the daily lives of the Gǀui people during a period when hunting and gathering, though already declining, still formed a familiar part of their way of life. The main location of the photographs is the settlement of Xade (aka ǃ’Úìǃùm̀) within the reserve. From a collection of about 3,000 documentary photographs, fifty have been selected for this exhibition. The selection, layout, and preparation were organized by the Kalahari Photo Exhibition Team (Yuito Atarashi, Kana Arakawa, Mari Okada, Rizu Kimura, and Daiki Morita). A slideshow presentation of related photo series is also available. In addition, visitors can view a display of tools and implements actually used in hunting and gathering activities, some of which may be touched and handled.
