Speaker: Philip Seaton, "English composer, Japanese composer? Reflections on the Japanese influence in my music"
  • Short Abstract: Since the first public performance of one of my pieces in London in 1990 (when I was 17), I have had 22 pieces performed in public. Of these, 19 were written after I first came to Japan in 1994, and 13 received their first performance in Japan. My fourth piece, "Memories of Japan", consciously used Japanese motifs, and was a key influence on later works. This short talk (with sound samples) discusses how spending over half my life living/working in Japan has shaped my music.
