Director of Leiden University’s International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) Visits TUFS

June 16, 2026

On Friday, June 12, 2026, Dr. Philippe Peycam, Director of the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) at Leiden University, paid a courtesy call on President Nobuo Haruna.
During the meeting, which was also attended by Professor Daisuke Shinagawa and Professor Chizuko Sato of our university, Director Peycam provided an overview of IIAS’s activities and its network. This was followed by a lively exchange of views on the importance of Asian and African regional studies and the potential for collaboration with our university.
Since signing an international academic exchange agreement in 2006, Leiden University and our university have maintained close ties as member institutions of the Consortium for Asian and African Studies (CAAS). This visit served as an extremely meaningful opportunity to review our past achievements and reaffirm our mutual commitment to further strengthening our cooperative relationship in the future.
