Slovenian Literature Event Held at TUFS

May 12, 2026

On April 24, 2026, an academic and cultural event featuring prominent Slovenian writers Ivan Cankar, Srečko Kosovel, and Zofka Kveder was held at our university. Organized by Lecturer Vesna Bukovec of the University of Ljubljana with the dedicated support of Professor Kumiko Kanazashi, this event was held as part of the “Slovenia 2026: Year of Culture – Between Worlds: Kosovel, Cankar and Kveder. ” project.

On the day of the event, Professor Mateja Pezdirc Bartol of the University of Ljubljana delivered a specialized lecture. Additionally, three students from our university—Nozomi Harima (2nd year, Graduate School of Global Studies), Hanae Matsuyama (3rd year, Graduate School of Global Studies), and Kosei Fukumoto (3rd year, School of Language and Culture Studies)—gave presentations on each author, demonstrating their deep understanding of the Slovenian language and literature through their presentations. Furthermore, the event featured an introduction to translated poems by Srečko Kosovel presented by Mirjam-Čuk Moishi, as well as a congratulatory address by Ada Hamza, Third Secretary at the Slovenian Embassy. These activities made the event a valuable opportunity for exchange that served as a bridge between the two countries in both academic and cultural spheres.

Toward the end of the event, traditional Slovenian sweets and wine were served, and the event concluded successfully as a multifaceted venue for cross-cultural understanding that engaged all five senses.

*Under an agreement with the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia, our university has been hosting Lecturer Vesna Bukovec from that institution since 2019, offering Slovenian language courses in undergraduate and graduate programs as well as in the Open Academy. In addition to language instruction, Lecturer Bukovec’s responsibilities include introducing Slovenian culture and traditions.
