TUFS Music Fan Club Guest Lecture: “Frankie Goes to Hollywood: They Came, They Sang, They Conquered”
December 8, 2025
The TUFS Music Fan Club, established by the International Education Support Office (IES), held a guest lecture on Friday, November 28, 2025. Professor Christopher Hood (Japan Foundation Fellow, TUFS) gave a very interesting presentation titled "Frankie Goes to Hollywood: They Came, They Sang, They Conquered". Professor Hood used samples of hits such as “Relax” and “Two Tribes” to introduce the band’s rise to fame, while also sharing his own connection with the band over the years. The guest lecture triggered a lively discussion among the students, staff, and faculty members who attended.
The goal of the TUFS Music Fan Club is to bring together TUFS faculty, staff, and students through their common love of music. We welcome any member of the TUFS community – from first year undergraduates to emeritus professors – to join us in thinking about how musical activities as listener and/or performer enrich our study of language and culture. There are no restrictions on genre, skill, or language – TUFS’ mission is “intercultural coexistence”. Join us in creating a space for learning more about genres that we perhaps do not usually listen to, using Japanese, English, and music to communicate.
