Exchange Session with Renowned Polish Author Dorota Masłowska Held at TUFS

October 20, 2025

On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the Polish Language Major at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) hosted an exchange session with acclaimed Polish author Dorota Masłowska. Since her sensational literary debut at the age of 19, Masłowska has received numerous awards and continues to expand her creative reach—not only as a writer but also as a leading artist in contemporary Polish culture.

The session was attended primarily by faculty and students from the Polish Language Major. Discussions centered around Masłowska’s iconic debut novel, Wojna polsko-ruska pod flagą biało-czerwoną (Snow White and Russian Red), exploring its themes, linguistic style, and cultural context. During the Q&A segment, students—serving as interpreters between Polish and Japanese—posed a wide range of questions about the origins of her work, writing habits, artistic influences, and personal philosophy.

Masłowska responded with both candor and thoughtfulness, and expressed high praise for the students’ Polish language proficiency. The event offered a valuable opportunity to deepen understanding of Polish culture through its language and literature.
