Japan-Uzbekistan Universities’ Conference

As part of an interuniversity exchanges between Japan and Uzbek universities, the 4th Japan-Uzbekistan Rectors’ Conference was held on September 28, 2022, in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture. TUFS Vice President for International Affairs Prof. Jun Matsukuma, and Prof. Shizuo Shimada(Institute of Global Studies)and Prof. Satoru Kimura (Institute of Global Studies) attended the conference. Nineteen university presidents from Uzbekistan and 23 university presidents from Japan participated in the conference and deepened exchanges.

Rector Prof. Gulchehra Rixsiyeva, Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies (TSUOS) and Prof. Nadira Khalmurzaeva who is the Department head of Japanese Philology visited TUFS after the conference on October 3rd and 4th.
TUFS and TSUOS concluded an academic exchange agreement in 1997, and established the Global Japan Office (GJO) in April 2021 to continue mutual exchanges.
They each delivered a lecture to the class in the Central Asia region major and interacted with our students. Rector Prof. Rifsiyeva and Prof. Khalmurzaeva paid a courtesy visit to President Kayoko Hayashi after Prof. Khalmurzaeva’s lecture on the 4th.
TUFS is the only university in Japan that specializes in the Uzbek language. Vice President Prof. Matsukuma and Prof. Shimada joined the meeting and actively exchange of views on cooperation for the promotion of Uzbek culture. Ms. Zulayxo Ibragimova, an exchange student from TSUOS and she is a first-year doctoral student at TUFS, served as an interpreter during the discussion.

Many books related to Uzbekistan were donated to TUFS by TSUOS, and a section introducing Uzbek culture was set up in one corner of the Central Asia Joint Research Office.
