ISHIKAWA Haru (2nd year student, School of Language and Culture Studies, Czech language major)
As it was an absurdist play that reflected the history of the Czech Republic, it was difficult to understand at first, and I was worried that the audience might not understand it either. As we rehearsed and prepared, we sought the help of Czech language teachers and translators to find out what this play, written half a century ago, was trying to say to the modern world, and how we could bring it to life on stage.
What made us happiest during the performance was that the audience laughed so much when they saw our play. We felt that the actors and the audience were able to share the irony and humor that was hidden in the text, which had seemed difficult to understand. We were very honored to be able to perform the results of our work at the embassy, where we were able to think about issues that are relevant today through the culture and history of the Czech Republic.
